My local radio station does a bit called 9 at 9 – nine songs from either a year or with one theme. (on a side note, my email about 1981 and Girls on Film was featured on one recently) Anyway, I was tickled with today’s theme:

Today's Playlist: Good Songs, Bad Lyrics

Drops of Jupiter -- Train
Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you're wrong
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance five-hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had . . . and me.

Moving In Stereo/All Mixed Up -- The Cars
life's the same I'm moving in stereo
life's the same except for my shoes
life's the same you're shakin' like tremolo
life's the same it's all inside you

If I Had a Boat -- Lyle Lovett
If I had a boatI'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a ponyI'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat

Abracadabra -- Steve Miller
I heat up, I can't cool down
You got me spinnin'
'Round and 'round
'Round and 'round and 'round it goes
Where it stops nobody knows

Black Balloon -- The Goo Goo Dolls
A thousand other boys could never reach you
How could I have been the oneI saw the world spin beneath you
And scatter like ice from the spoon
that was your womb

One Week -- Barenaked Ladies
Hold it now and watch the hoodwink
As I make you stop, think
You'll think you're looking at Aquaman
I summon fish to the dish,
Although I like the Chalet SwissI
like the sushi
Cause it's never touched a frying pan
Hot like wasabe when I bust rhymes
Big like LeAnn RimesBecause I'm all about value

Whoever You Are -- Geggy Tah
All I wanna do is to thank you
even though I don't know who you are
You let me change lanes
while I was driving in my car

Thank You -- Alanis Morissette
how bout getting off these antibiotics
how bout stopping eating when I'm full up
how bout them transparent dangling carrots
how bout that ever elusive kudo.

De Do Do Do De Da Da Da -- The Police
Don't think me unkind
Words are hard to find
They're only check's I've left unsigned
From the banks of chaos in my mind
And when their eloquence escapes me
Their logic ties me up and rapes me
De do do do de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do de da da daIs all I want to say to you
De do do do de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true

I have to admit, they missed the song that would be my nomination: Bad by U2

I'm wide awake I'm wide awake Wide awake I'm not sleeping Oh, no, no, no

I mean, come on – I’m wide awake, I’m not sleeping?????

What would you nominate?

Blessed art Thou, O Christ our God, who hast revealed the fishermen as most wise by sending down upon them the Holy Spirit: through them Thou didst draw the world into Thy net. 0 Lover of Man, Glory to Thee (Troparion).

Memorial Day weekend in the Northwest can be a bit touchy, and this year was no exception. I had the pleasure of shivering through a quick picnic after the Pentecost Liturgy and Kneeling Vespers at our Chapel in the Mt. Rainier foothills (“Mom, what if Mt. Rainier blows while we are there? Mom, did you know that Mt. Rainier is overdue to erupt?”) Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous, and I enjoyed spending time with Eddie and the boys, watching a very good Mariners game on TV, and finishing my book for Book Club.

Lizzie was blessed to attend Liturgy at the ROCOR cathedral in Seattle, concelebrated with priests from all Jurisdictions – Thanks be to God. I had hoped to attend, but the lure of family time was too strong. Perhaps next year, as I read they’d like to make it an annual event.

Enjoy the Festal Week!
