Although, I'm not feeling so young today, I participated in Windermere's annual Community Service Day yesterday, and after weeding flower beds for several hours, my legs are awfully sore today. Groan.

At least I get to scrapbook tonight with friends, have the evening to myself (Eddie and Xavier have a Cub Scout camping trip and Cedric's on his 8th Grade Trip), and attend Pentecost Liturgy tomorrow at our Parish's historic Holy Trinity Church, and enjoy their Altar Feast Day picnic afterwards. Hopefully it won't rain.

From May to November, Wednesdays are the big day in our house. We get our CSA box.

For those who don't know, CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. We buy a share in a local, organic small farm (Kirsop Farms) and in return for our payment, we get a share of the veggies grown on the farm every week for the growing season.

Yesterday, we got our first box (the first few weeks are bags) with baby carrots, basil, joi choi, lettuce, garlic, and assorted greens. Driving home with this aromatic box reminds me of what it means to eat what is in season, when it is in season. Strawberries aren't for December. It's a life lesson, really.

We also get a nice newsletter with stories of what transpired on our farm during the week, recipes for the items in the box (so, what do I do with Joi Choi, you may wonder). We have the opportunity to buy produce from Eastern Washington, coffee from organic sources, honey, etc. At the end of the season, we get a garlic braid and squash and potatoes for the winter.

Even though I'm not the main cook in our family (for which they are eternally grateful) I still appreciated being able to get fresh foods and enoy them. Tonight, we'll have fresh pesto on our pasta, and you are all invited.

1. Total Number of Books I've Owned:

I can't even fathom putting a number to this. One thing I've been doing since 2003 is keeping a journal of the books I read. Just title, author and date completed (don't want to get bogged down). From that, I've learned I read between 50-60 books a year. Now, this is while I have kids, a job, a marriage, hobbies and other stuff, so I'm sure that number would have been bigger when I had summers off, and smaller when I had young kids. But, if I use 55 as an average and figure I've been reading roughly 28 years, I come up with 1485 books.

2. Last Book I Bought:

For myself "Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Doctor Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World" by Tracy Kidder for book club.
