The other day, Eddie said to me “you can tell it’s been a cold winter, our daffodils aren’t starting to bloom. They are staying toasty warm in the ground” As with Autumn , the change always happens nearly overnight. Our daffodils (and crocuses, and hyacinths) are starting to put up shoots, and I can hear birds in the morning and frogs in the pond at night. While I love cold and cozy days, until I lived in Washington, I never realized how amazing watching the world burst forth into Spring feels. And, it is a bursting forth that is greatly captured by our joyous celebration of Pascha (Easter) after a long Lent (an observation not lost in the history of the word Lent)

Happy early Spring! Happy Thursday!

I didn't know Texas' and Washington's seasons were ever this concurrent. A few of my daffodils have opened up and I just noticed the chirping birds today. Thanks for the picture! It was too cloudy to see the lunar eclipse here.
Well, I'm glad you got to view the lunar eclipse ;-)
So sunny Virginia had clouds and cloudy Washington had clear skies! I call unfair! ;-)
Glad you got to see it!
I have some daffodils poking up shoots, but they're coming up really slowly. It's getting about time to start thinking about the garden!
That's funny -- we always seem to miss things like eclipses because of clouds too. So, we were excited to get to see it last night!
Well, we are still dealing with snow on the ground and sub-freezing temperatures in Rockford IL. brrrr.
Nice pic, Mimi! I think the eclipse was the reason my dogs were acting so strangely the night before last...
My daffodils are up and shining, and other things are poking through, but I can never remember their names. It's a very small flowering bulb that has miniature clusters of blue flowers, but it's not a hyacinth. My dh, of course, put them in all over the hill behind the house.
I missed the lunar eclipse because of clouds. Rats. Beautiful picture you have there.
I've noticed the raccoons are back in force. A couple of nights ago, just as dh got home from work, we heard a couple of them bickering (not really a fight, not enough growling going on) just outside of the range of the lights. I'll have to be sure to make several trips up into my poultry yard during the day to keep them from sneaking in and killing my hens, who have started laying again, albeit slowly!!
I wish our daffodils were starting... it's snowing here!
Happy near-spring! Crocuses in our back yard here in Portland, Oregon!
We got to see the lunar eclipse as well. Greg was on business travel in Los Angeles and I was just leaving choir practice in Kansas. He called up and told me to check it out, and so we got to sit there on the phone and share the lunar eclipse. It was very cool.
Did you see the beautiful flowers at Amy Sorenson's blog? I'm jealous--my bulbs have been sprouted for ages but not a peek of a flower yet. Next year, crocuses! (Not a daffodil fan.)
So insightful, Mimi :-)
ah. i remember when i lived on the West Coast and the springs comeing so early! it is sunny here in Ottawa, but we still have a bit of winter to get through...
so wonderful that we have the liturgical seasons to unite us, when the weather's seasons are a bit apart!
I'm glad you got to see the eclipse.. I didn't even know about it.
I love Spring flowers, especially hyacinths. They're my favorite!!
I am so jealous you are looking at an early spring. Here in Toronto we have the never-ending winter!
we got nothing here. Too much rain and cloud cover to see either flowers, or the eclipse. AND I had to work. I was totally bummed.
oh, and thank you for the beautiful bday card. It is so lovely.
But, my emails to you keep pinging back to me. So you email me with your new (?) address?
Peregrine was uper excited to see the eclipse, a planet, and some constellations too. Clear skies are a treat this time of year. We're also enjoying the bulbs poking up and beginning to bloom, and today I was treated to a smiling boy with a bouquet of crocus for me! Happy (early) Spring!
