Live a Life Less Ordinary
On Saturday night, I had the pleasure of attending the Mountain Music Fest at Marymoor Park with Lizzie. As Lizzie mentions, the sun shone in our face for a good part of the afternoon, but she was well prepared with yummy foods (homemade cauliflower tarts – yum) and we had lots of water. It was such a lovely venue and far different than my previous festival concert experience. We actually brought blankets and sat for a good majority of the time just enjoying chatting and the awesome music.
First up was Jackie Greene – he and I grew up in the same neck of the woods (although he’s nearly 10 years younger than me) . Then, was Shawn Mullins whose voice is even more gravelly and lovely in person. He’ a red-head jealous of those who are pigmentally blessed (and thus not burning to a crisp whilst sitting in the sun) . Then was the BoDeans who I’d never really listened to. Most of the people on the radio think they stole the show, and I nearly have to agree. Their music was really awesome and I think I need an album or two – any suggestions? Lastly, and the main reason we went was to see Carbon Leaf who didn’t disappoint. Their set was a great mix of old and new, they ended with The Boxer, and we had to dance the entire time. The only thing that would have made their concert perfect was Raise the Roof as the encore. Their new album comes out in September, and I’m so there to buy it.
Driving out was a dream, we didn’t have terrible traffic at all (although we came out a different gate which was a bit confusing), I dropped Lizzie off, and got home right about midnight. One of the wonderful things about the concert being sponsored by the radio station is that I’ve heard clips from the show several times. It was great.
We kept saying “Next year, we should…” so I hope that we’ll be able to attend!

Oooh, Carbon Leaf is coming back here in September, I see from their site

Sounds like a very nice evening!
Not being much of a fan of cauliflower in the first place... what is a cauliflower tart like? Is it a 'main entre' type of food or a desert or what? I am a bit curious about this.
Looks like you had the perfect evening!
Looks like you had the perfect evening!
Look at you...rockin' out!!
Nothing like a outdoor concert on a perfect summer night.
Sounds like a great way to spend a summer's evening! Enjoy the sun while it shines!
oh lucky you!!! I lovelovelove outdoor concerts. I just missed one the other night. sarah harmer was playing at the malkin bowl in stanley park (vancouver, bc) but we were at a wedding. *sob* (but it was a lovely wedding)
looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, Mimi!!
I noticed something weird...
There are people who post on my site coming from Muslim, Jewish and other Christian sites...but very few from Orthodox sites..
It was so much fun to go to the concert with you! :) I'm thinking I need a BoDean's CD as well.
Papa Herman: THe cauliflower tart recipe is here: http://community.livejournal.com/whatwecook/28311.html
You could make a big one as well, but I've made them so far in muffin pans. They don't taste that cauliflowery--people who didn't like cauliflower have liked them. They're kind of quiche like, but less egg/cheese and more veggie than most quiches.
I hope I haven't messed something up with the link...
It sounds like so much fun!
We had a small concert in our town (I posted on it) and I had a GREAT time.
Sounds like you had a lot of fun! I love Marymoor Park! Thanks for everything Mimi! :)
