Baptisms and Scrapbooking, Oh my! It was a busy weekend, I had the pleasure of having Dawn come down and visit on Friday night. Eddie made a great sweet and sour tofu, and then we made cards – Dawn for Vasilia’s Baptism, and me on a couple of Get Well and Thank You cards.

Saturday morning, we got up really early, enjoyed some Holy Chocolate and got on the road to Portland for the double Baptism – it was so beautiful, and lovely to see everyone. Vasilia is adorable, Katie and Job look great, and we had the pleasure of sitting with Susan and Petros, and Christina and Paul. Lovely conversation. We also enjoyed the bookstore (although I think I kept getting distracted by all the books while talking – ooh, shiny! and probably was a pain to talk to – forgive me).

We drove home; Dawn headed off the back way to home and arrived safely. I bundled up my stuff and went to my monthly scrapbooking meeting. I’m working on my Hawaii album.

Sunday morning, we had a Baptism at our parish of a little girl whose father is serving in Afghanistan (keep Justin in your prayers, please) and was home for a two week R&R. She’s beautiful and it was lovely to see the Baptism. Our parish does the Churching right at the end of the Liturgy, and when Father sings Simeon’s Canticle; and then puts the baby on the altar steps, I cry like a baby. Every time. I did it when Xavier was Baptized, and I think at every one I’ve seen since. And, I did yesterday as well.

Got home, watched the Mariners win, watched two episodes of Lost
(Dawn loaned me Season I and I’m hooked) and nearly finished my book.

It was a lovely weekend. People keep saying that this is the last warm week of the year – we’ll see if they are right.

Sounds like a truely lovely weekend.

I've only seen two churchings and I cried at both. It also makes me pine for another baby.

Hope you have plenty more beautiful weekends ahead.

I love churchings and baptisms, too, and tear up at every one.

Say it isn't so about the weather! You people up here get rid of summer so fast. When we lived in San Diego, people were still telling "what I've been doing this summer" in October. :-P I did warn my kids that if they want to swim again this summer, it probably needs to be this week.

What a perfect weekend. I cry at baptisms too for some odd reason, I think it is the preciousness of the sweet little baby or maybe I am crying because one day the sweet little baby will become a rotten teenager...lol!

Oh, I alway cry at the singing of the Canticle of Simeon. Our priest carries the baby from icon to icon, and sings in the most lovely voice. For my boy children, he takes them through the Royal Doors ( the only time the will ever pass through those doors unless they are ordained). For the girl babies, he carries them from icon to icon on the iconostas, and it seems to me introduces the baby to her new brothers and sisters in Christ. Just thinking about it brings tears of joy.

Since you don't update everyday i couldn't take a chance that you would update today (Aug. 31) so I have to place these birthday greetings in this entry. Anyway, since i once was accused of leaving comments that are longer than the entries associated with them I'll stop now and simply say:

Many Years! (and thanks for reading my journal and commenting,)

Sto Lat!

I'm so glad I am not the only one who cries at Churchings. Thank you for sharing your sweet stories.

Simone, warn a girl, I laughed out loud at this: or maybe I am crying because one day the sweet little baby will become a rotten teenager...lol!

And, Tom, thank you very much. Your kind words are much appreciated, I enjoy reading your journal.
