Heard while driving, Vol. 12.9.2007

"I've been wondering what group I fit into, and decided I'm a nerd core goth"
"Really, how many are in that group?"
"Just me"

I'm glad he's found some place to fit in (it's hard at 16, you know.) And be happy! And, it was a nice day with just the two of us - interesting chats, we went mall shopping, and had a nice Starbucks together.

"Nerd core goth"...

Bless his little heart. Yeah, 16 is the *pits.* I always hate to hear adults tell kids that this is the "best" time of their lives -- for me, it was the absolute worst. I would rather be *anything* than a teenager again.

Glad you had a good day together!

hmmm, I can't say where I happened to spend my 16th birthday, let's just say that while my teen years were not the worst period of my life, they were certainly the precurser to that time.

I suspect it may be even more difficult to be a teenager today. At one time there were elements in our society that reinforced the parental role, these days there seem to be even more elements that conflict with what parents are trying to teach their kids.

I am very glad that you had such a good day!

That sounds nice that you had a day together! I was just thinking while baking with Molly (age 3) today, "It's nice to have a little one-on-one time."

Beautiful! They were talking to you at least...

Perhaps, you could a nice place other than Starbucks? After they attacked our monastery on Vashon Island I have never given them any more business, and I think all of us should do likewise.

So sweet. He is so cute. I keep remembering the poster tube taped to his leg. Good that he's his own person.

Now, that's a new one,"nerd core goth." I have to admit I have no idea what that might be. So glad you had this one-on-one with your 16 year old. I hope such times continue and multiply for you.

It is good that he can talk and share with you, his Mom.

Blessings to you both.

Ever heard Brad Paisley's "Letter to Me" (a letter back in time to himself at 17). "These are nowhere near the best days of your life..." Just reminded me :-)

As said by others, how wonderful you two can communicate at that age.
