A Simple Woman’s Daybook
For Today...
Outside my Window...it is a lovely, warm day. Often September is better weather than August.
I am thinking...that I am too old to ride the Tilt-a-Whirl. I found this out to my chagrin on Sunday at the local Fair.
From the learning rooms...the Oldest read his first Chekhov short story yesterday, the X-man wrote a math essay and got to use my Bind-it-All
I am thankful for...a good Book Club discussion last night, and time out on the patio with friends, good food, and a glass of wine.
From the kitchen...probably tomato pie.
I am wearing...a pair of jeans my boss loaned me, and a t-shirt from one of my co-workers after dumping an entire cup of coffee on my lap this morning.
I am reading...Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep. I just finished Orson Scott Card’s Enchantment. Like Deb, I disagree with his portrayal of Orthodoxy, but other than that, the book was a fabulous read and had great Russian folklore woven throughout. If his writing is often like that, I’ll read more of it (recommendations?)
I am hoping...for my sister.
I am creating...my wedding album – we’ve only been married 17.5 years, maybe it is time.
I am hearing...the radio
Around the house...getting ready for exterior painting.
One of my favorite things...is coffee, when it isn’t in my lap.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...walk tonight, lunch with a friend on Thursday, hopefully a book signing on Friday, and a women’s auxiliary meeting and Vespers on Saturday.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...I overslept the Matins of Yesterday’s Feast , but here is the icon:

Card is a good writer but has trouble with his series. They always seem to sort of run downhill and die. You might like Pastwatch: the Redemption of Christopher Columbus. That's a stand-alone and pretty interesting.
Have you enjoyed Guernica? I have it on my TBR list.
Ohhh, good book club discussions, those are always encouraging.
Please share your tomato pie recipe! I have never tried it.
I KNOW I'm too old for a tilt-a-whirl. Found that out early on in my life! LOL!
Coffee not in the lap is a good thing. Nice boss!
Happy week!
My DH adores Card--his favorite is Ender's Game, which has become something of a classic. I enjoyed Pastwatch--I remember being really moved by it. Card also wrote a series based on the lives of Old Testament women--I haven't read any, but I've heard good things.
I keep thinking about tackling my wedding pictures, but...eh. Maybe for our 20th I'll whip up an album. I'd love to see some pages from yours!
Hi MIMI!
What? What? What coffee? When? More info, please... :-)
i think i have a pile of forgotten wedding photos somewhere, but I DID create an "album" on facebook. do virtual albums count???
i also enjoy coffee, verrrry much! coffee in the lap is never good but it's even WORSE when it's in the lap of a customer... i'm very glad i'm a secretary now. :)
Hmmmm, Helena - so I may have read his best one? I’ve heard good things about Ender’s Game and have wondered about his Women of the Bible series – but it seems someone told me Sarah ended oddly.
Deb - I’ve not read Guernica yet, but my great-grandfather was Basque, so I would like to.
Meadowlark - it’s really easy. I take chopped fresh tomatoes, mix with goat cheese (or mozzarella), add some chopped fresh basil, put it into a pie crust, and bake at 375 for about 25-30 minutes
Philippa proving you are a wiser woman than I am!
Janelle yeah, that’s kind of where I am with the wedding photos, I now have them sorted and the paper chosen, and an album bought.
Kristin Be there, or be square
Mwah, Lorna
And, Jenny - I totally agree – in the lap of a customer is worse!
Hope you didn't burn yourself!
sigh. sounds like some nice times!
FYI... I keep a running list by my computer of all the books I come across recommended by bloggers (including you). So I am always happy to see whatyou are reading!
