"If music be the food of love, play on"; We had the pleasure of seeing a double feature of Shakespeare in the Park with the lovely Mr. and Mrs. Mousethief, a double date that we enjoy annually. The two plays were Hamlet and Twelfth Night, neither of which I’d seen performed live. They had lovely performances, the setting was fabulous, we ate very well, and of course the conversation and company perfect. Instead of the rain that threatened, it was even sunny and warm. Sadly, there were no bunnies, just ants.
Our dishwasher broke, again, last week “Mom, the dishes aren’t clean.” So, Eddie and I decided it was time to replace the twice-broken machine, who knew that there was so much angst in choosing a new one – stainless steel or not? Stainless steel tub or not? What decibel level? What color? What features. We finally settled on a nice Maytag, and drove to a second store to pick out the black that matched our kitchen. My lovely husband stayed up until the late hours of Friday night to install it, and my dishes are now clean.
The other day, I got a sweet note from the lovely Rebeca that I’d won her apron drawing, and by the by, a sweet pink handmade apron with butterflies arrived (modeled by her lovely mom in the photo.) It is perfect, thank you!
Speaking of Rebeccas, I just finished Daphne duMaurier’s masterpiece, adding another on my “what books have you read” list. It was fabulously gothic, and a great read. And, I got a new quote for my blog from it, isn’t it lovely?
Oh, and last call for the ATC swap - I'll close signups on Friday, and send an email to you if you are participating.
Enjoy your Monday, and the Olympics. I look forward to watching the events this evening.

the Shakespeare event sounds lovely! Enjoy the new dishwasher!!
Rebecca is one of my all time favorite books! I'm glad you were able to read it! The movie is pretty good, too.
Wanted to pop over and say Thanks for the lovely gift for Gregory!! I can't wait to get some pictures into it!! Thanks again for thinking of us! That was so sweet of you!
fun new quote... in about 5 years i will be 36; strange; time...
sigh. i am dreaming of an apartment w. a dishwasher; actually i think first i dream of one with a washer and dryer inside... but before that... Wood floors! :)
i read _Rebecca years ago when i lived in BC (of course my friends tease me, as years ago means about 2-6 years, not say 10-20) and really enjoyed it!
so glad you have a dishwasher! fun. and getting is second hand - cool. :)
Just went through these shenanigans getting a new dishwasher. What a pain!
I'll have to find a copy of Rebecca to read. Never heard of it.
Did you hear about the new HP novel?
Would've loved to have seen the plays with you! Sounds delightful.
Hmmm... talk to me about this ATC swap :) How many people will be playing?
I went to a Shakespeare in the Park production once... it was really cool!!
I really enjoyed Rebecca as well and am hoping to convince book club to read My Cousin Rachel in a few months.
Sorry to hear about your dishwasher. Wish we had spent a little more money but gotten a more efficient model. BTW, thanks for the recommendation of Rebecca. And, congrats on winning the apron.
our dishwasher is on its last legs...
and hey guess what- little Finland (population less than NYC) has got a gold and a bronze medal in the olympics (both in shooting!)
Glad you like the apron! And have fun with the new dishwasher! Enjoy your week!
i've been looking for Rebecca on my new fave book trading website, but no joy! I can't believe i've not read it at some point in my 40 years!
things are so busy here that i won't be able to participate in this ATC swap but i'd certainly like to at some point in the future :-)
your Shakespeare outing sounded wonderful! Congrats on your new dishwasher - and what a good DH you have to stay up that late! :)
I LOVE Shakespeare in the park and especially those two shows!
I performed 12th night with my high school kids one year, but we set it in the 60's and used 60's music for all the music (an idea stolen from a production at a local university).
I'm giggling at how lovely it is to be congratulated on a new dishwasher (oh, how adulthood is) but thank you, I AM enjoying it. I am particuarly enjoying having clean dishes.
Rebecca - you are welcome, I'm glad it arrived.
Christina - I've heard good things about the movie too.
Philippa - I have heard about the new HP novel, I hope it is good!
Deb - I agree, I'll look into her other novels.
And, HW - about six, are you in?
Elizabeth - I know what you mean, I've always been the youngest of my "group" - at work, in my scrapbooking group, in Book Club. Although, I'll be 36 not in five years, but in a couple of weeks.
And, ooooh, Monica - that rendition sounds good. This one was set in Colonial times.
One of the my first dates with my husband 10 years ago was Shakespeare In The Oark. It was amazing but we have yet to make it back...
hey you wrote on ukok's blog that you are a member of bookcrossing. What's your name there? PM me - my name is the same as in my blog :) and then I can see your wish list :)
"Rebecca" is not only one of my all-time faves, but I think it should be illegal to graduate from high school without having read it (I did not read it in high school, either). The plot is so well spun that it never occurs to you, until someone points it out, that the heroine actually has no first name...!
Oh, and congrats on the apron. I missed National Apron Day, again...
ATC swap??? Count me in if it's not too late...just email me the specs!
sure, i'm in!
Glad you enjoyed "Shakespeare In The Park"... sounds great!
I think I may need a new dishwasher soon... it's old, and a 747 is quieter.
Thank you for stopping by. I know that buying appliances can be a nightmare, perhaps I'll post my own stories about that. Enjoy yours.

Twelfth Night is one of my favourite Shakespeares to see live but being in Scotland it's always safer inside! 20 odd years ago the BBC did a great dramatisation of Rebecca with Joanna David (Mrs Gardiner from Pride & Prejudice 1995) as the Girl. I loved it and I still have the book with her on the cover and went out on my 36th birthday in black satin and pearls, everyone said how nice I looked but no-one got it.
Holly Wood Said: And I keep forgetting to tell you... I LOVE In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson. Back when I thought I wanted to teach, I used to dream about the lesson plans I could do with that book!!!!

Margi! That is *so* fabulous, I LOVE it!

Daphne Du Maurier filled up many hours of mine in high school! I enjoyed Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca too with the dashing Lawrence Olivier and Olivia De Havilland's sister, Joan Fontaine. I saw the movie before I read the book and liked envisioning the characters through that lens, but if you read it first, I don't know if the movie will disappoint.
