Tuesday Varia

Sunday was one of my favorite days of the year. Not only was it Mother’s Day (and happy happy to my amazing mother – every time I’ve gone through the window, it was the best choice, mwah!), and I got a lovely rose at church (the X man wondered if men got blue bow ties on Father’s Day), but it is also the day that Major League Baseball players use pink bats. (photo credit from article)

And, the day after Mother’s Day is a lovely day as well, the second annual National Apron Day, did you participate? I wore mine proudly, but look just the same as last year and since I didn’t have any photographers with me in the morning, you’ll have to trust me.

Speaking of Baseball – did you see the unassisted triple play yesterday?

An interesting article from the archaeology world – researches say they have found the palace of the Queen of Sheba

And, lastly, two items in the interesting word origin department. First – it occurred to me during Lent that the root of companion
was someone who you had bread with. And, dictionary.com’s word of the day taught me that the origin of contrite is from Latin conterere, "to rub away, to grind," hence "to obliterate, to abase," from con- + terere, "to rub, to rub away." How true that is!

Oh my goodness, I wish I would've known about this! How neat! I am definitely participating next year! I can't tell you how many times I've left the house in my apron and didn't even realize it until I got where I was going. Thanks for posting about this!

I should put you and my husband together to watch baseball! He has order MLB over the 'net so he can watch all the games! ALL the games! And for a very cheap price!

People talk about golf widows...I am a baseball widow! LOL!

Go Red Sox!

I wear an apron often, but I didn't know about this special day! ;-) I have a small collection of vintage aprons. My husband is also known to wear an apron on occasion when peeling pomegranates...Love your pink one!

I'm so glad to hear you had such a lovely day. I totally agree with the others....I want to join in next year for APRON day. I don't have one nearly as cute as yours, though. I love that photo! Where did you get it? Or did someone make it?

What brought you to Kentucky from New York? My hubby was going to Asbury Seminary- that was before we became Orthodox. And now we’re stuck here :)

Love the stories about aprons, I'd gone years without wearing one, and they really come in handy (who would have thought, eh?) Mine was made by the Fabulous Kitchen Madonna (kitchenmadonna.blogspot.com) and I treasure it. And, Meadowlark, my Dh has one he wears when he cooks too, but it isn't flouncy like mine.

And, Philippa, I think my hubby is a baseball widow too (wait until I share THAT with him)

Thanks, Michelle Melania!
