On the 9th Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…a blog post, apparently! Wow, I did not mean to go silent on everyone, thank you so much for your kind Christmas and New Year’s wishes! We had a wonderful feast and are so far enjoying the New Year! It is my brother’s birthday today and my boss’ too, Happy Birthday to Both!
Nine things about the past nine days:
Eddie got me a cute pair of boots (did I predict that or what, Molly?) at my new favorite online store.
Cedric bought gifts for all of us with his own money – pretty cool, huh. So, Bath and Body Works lovers – what do I use my gift card on?
I heard an interesting piece on BirdNote about the first seven Days of Christmas being about birds. While it was fascinating, I certainly hope my true love doesn’t buy me a bird (or seven), I love to see them outside, but inside birds kind of creep me out.
We went to a lovely New Year’s Party yesterday at the Mousethief residence. I love that Mrs. Mousethief makes vegetarian Black Eyed Peas so I can have good luck, and we played Boggle with Lizzie and Mousethief and had a great time (although my score was like six)
While standing at Midnight Liturgy on Christmas, I was contemplating binding my Festal service books with my new Bind-It-All (thanks, Mom!)
Xavier didn’t see the bike we got him for the Nativity, even though it was sitting under the tree. And, since it stayed in my office for a couple of weeks prior – did you know that bikes have a smell like a new car smell?
The DQ Blizzard of the month for December is lovely. Yum.
I read 90 books in 2007. I suspect my 2008 total will be less, though, because I’m planning on reading War and Peace which I think will take me awhile.
I put my elbow in peanut butter at the Co-op the other day, and told Eddie that it was ok that my coat was at the cleaners because it should be warm. It has snowed two days since then. I pick it up tonight – on a warm, rainy day!
May 2008 be full of love, peace and blessings!

Oh, please do keep me posted on War and Peace -- I tried to read it a number of years back, and couldn't get past the first ten chapters. I kept losing track of who was who. Anna Karenina, OTOH, I *loved,* and have read it four or five times.
Okay, so do I even want to know why or how you stuck your elbow in peanut butter?
As for Bath and Body works, wait until they have their 75% off sale in the spring and go shopping then. You'll maximize your purchases and be able to double up on assorted shower gels and matching body lotions. Can you tell I'm addicted?
I love how you find the time to put hyperlinks in all your posts. How cute! I'm a fairly new blogger. You are obviously very seasoned. :)
90 books! That's amazing... too kids under two made that impossible for me in the last few months, but I'd like to try to get through at least 10 this year. That is so disappointing for a former English teacher...
a happy new year to you and your family my friend.
question: the mrs is wanting music to knit by "whatever that is" (her quote); so any suggestions?
Happy New Year, Mimi!
Several years ago I decided that I wanted to read W&P before my 50th birthday. It took me about a year to read it, but I did! A couple of things to remember...
There are two stories: the war between Napolean and the rest of Europe and the personal stories of the characters. The personal stories were, to me, more interesting. If you have access to a map (or "Stratego" or "Risk") get it out. Borders and alliances change and there was even a truce in the middle of the war.
Each character has at least three names: their formal Russian name, their French name (which is what the nobility spoke almost exclusively until the war with Napolean) and their Russian nickname(s). Everyone is related somehow.
Although it's in one volume, W&P is really five books (or more--I can't remember exactly). So be patient. Savor it. But maybe if I had bought the Cliff Notes to use as reference I might have finished W&P sooner!
I love War and Peace! And I just saw the movie with Audrey Hepburn and loved it too! Enjoy. I think I could really zip through a big fat Tolstoy novel if I was wearing those sharp looking boots Eddie got for you!
5 Golden Rings, but I think the others are birds. Wow! War and Peace! I'm interested to here how it goes along the way. Happy New Year!
It sounds like you're having a wonderful holiday season.
I am extremely impressed by your reading in 2007! 90 books in a year is quite an accomplishment. You're an inspiration :-)
What a fun post! It is great to read your news. Love your new boots, my coat was in the cleaner last week during some warm days in Cincy- then it turned COLD!
90 books! Wow!
90 books: wow. Good luck with W&P: look forward to hearing about it.
A Happy and Blessed New Year!
Glad you had a great holiday, Mimi. Happy New Year!
The boots are adorable, btw.
wishing you God's blessings in this new year!
I think I'd have to be nursing another new born (and maybe even another one after) that to have time for W & P! Once babies get any older they nap less, nurse less, and you have to keep your eyes on them!! :)
90 books! Wow, I am impressed.
Happy New Year!
Mimi, I just got your lovely Christmas letter and I am absolutely thrilled. Thank you SO much for thinking of me!
(((hugs)))
Meg - I will keep you posted, I am planning on starting W&P in probably March.
Philippa - at the Co-op, they have a big tub of bulk peanut butter out on the counter at elbow height. And, the aisles are pretty narrow. Thanks for the B&BW tips.
Michelle Melania - I think that reading comes back when the kids get older. Really, I look back at my kids early babyhood with a fog, and while I did do some reading, I certaintly didn't do that much!
March Hare - thanks for the W&P tips. I have read Russian novels before, so the names don't phase me, but the other items are greatly appreciated. I'll print thse tips out!
H West - thanks for stopping by! The odd thing was according to the piece, the five golden rings are actually birds too - Gold Ring Necked Phesants. Who knew?
Thanks for the boot compliments, I realy do like them!
