And we wait. I was telling Deb the other day that I have been very aware of being on the cusp this year – this time of waiting and watching for the Nativity that is to come on Tuesday. While Advent means coming, and the entire time we have been preparing by reading the Old Testament and commemorating the Old Testament saints that have pointed the way, December 20th starts the five day Forefeast of the Nativity, where our preparation is ramped up. Today’s Kontakion says:
Today the Virgin is coming to the cave/ to give birth to the eternal Word./
Rejoice at the message, O earth;/ with the Angels and Shepherds give glory/
to Him Who was willing to be seen as a Child/ while remaining God throughout
all ages.
The packages are all wrapped, my mailing is done, the house is cleaner and while I have some things I need to be getting done (I am co-in charge of the Coffee Hour tomorrow morning), I don’t have any huge items on m y “to-do” list. It reminds me of Holy Saturday this expectation and quietness.
My wishes for peace and quiet to all.

Have a very blessed and Merry Christmas Mimi!
May the next few days be filled with peace and quiet for you as well.
Have a blessed Christmas!
Christ is (almost) born!
Believe it or not, I *just found out* about this time of preparation -- from another OCA priest. This is why I keep saying that despite the Greeks' claims of superiority based on their historical claims, when it comes to actual spiritual practice, the Russians have it all sewn up.
We spent yesterday listening to Christmas music of a classical nature, stuff by Michael Praetorius and the Westminster Choir, while Jim read and I stitched on my icon. I do still have presents to wrap, but that is the last of my preparations, thankfully.
And Chris *does* have off for Christmas!! What a blessing, that he will be able to spend it at home!
My warmest wishes and prayers for a blessed Christmas season and New Year to you and your family.
December 20th starts the five day Forefeast of the Nativity ... I love that idea.
Here in Finland Christmas Eve is the day for giving presents - in the old days I suppose it was so the gifts (of clothing) could be worn early to Church on Christmas Morn
May your preparation be blessed and May the JOY Of the LORD be with you as you celebrate his birth tomorrow and break your fast!
Hi Mimi - thank you for the Christmas wish and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too - it has been a pleasure getting to know you these past months - I look forward to seeing more of you in the coming New Year. Have fun and I will see you soon. Kellan
