Yesterday, I was talking with an agent in my office about her new grandson. She said that he’d come home from the hospital with his parents, but she hadn’t been to the house yet to see them. I told her that I remember that feeling of panic when my mom came over right after we brought Cedric home - helped clean, take care of him, and then left. And that moment of “it’s the three of us, now what?” We all survived, and that day was 16 years ago today (well, actually I guess 16 years minus 2 days, because Cedric wasn’t born at home). Happy Birthday, Cedric! We’ve all grown up together, and done a pretty good job.

We went out to celebrate last night, as tonight is the Blue and Gold with Xavier bridging to Boy Scouts, and Eddie stepping down as Cubmaster. Cedric got a book of The Onion newspapers, a Shakespeare collection (now you can give us ours back, said Eddie), and gift cards. It was lovely.

Happy Birthday Cedric!
Today is my husband's 55th birthday too!! A card that plays 'Bad to the Bone' when you open it...a VW car manual, Huey Lewis's Greatest Hits, a black dress polo shirt and a homemade icecream cake.

Go celebrate!!

And great big congratulations to Xavier! We just did that too...Brendan just got his Arrow of Light, and crossed over into Troop 67 (St. Spiridon). It's definitely a Big Deal...way to go!!!

Wow, 16. I well remember when my boys were that age. It seemed like a pretty big milestone at the time.

Congrats to the whole family for the adventure of wraping your lives together in this crazy old world through the good and the bad, the mundane and the phenomenal.

They sure grow up fast, don't they?

Happy birthday to you, Cedric! And congratulations, Xavier, on moving up in the Scouting world.

(Lovely photo, BTW. Also: while reading your post, had one of those weird moments when the music I was listening to (Joanna Newsom's "Only Skin") hit the word "survived" just as I was reading "survived" in your post. Always gives me a little frisson...)
