What I'm reading now, when the cat isn't using it as a pillow. I have a friend who asked me if I'd read Les Miserables, stating, "When I finished that book, I thought if I never read again, I have read". With a recommendation such as that, I decided to pick it up.

Although, I was a bit worried when a discussion of the most boring book you've ever read came up on an internet board, and the Waterloo Scene was brought up, as I was just about to start it. But, Thursday night, I zipped through that (finding it not at all boring) and am continuing my way through. I have only about 1000 more pages.

After that, I think I'll rent the DVD of the play, which I've never seen.

Mimi,
I went to see this play at a high school a few years ago. I had heard about this "title" for years and knew nothing at all about it. My two teen girls had a good friend in it who played
Jean ValJean. So I went. Wow! Then, of course, after that, they had to rent the movie or the Broadway musical, I guess it was...I loved that too...the girls have two different CD's and have both read the book. I'd say they love it! I haven't gone as far as they have.
I envy people who can read thick books with tiny print...fast. How do you do it? Ha! Suz

It is one of the books I tried to get through a few years ago it couldn't manage. Maybe I give it another go.

Oh, I am guessing this is your cat?
Beautiful! We had a lovely Calico also not long ago. :( I miss her. What is your cat's name? Suzanne

You will love the play. I saw it live when I was 15 at the Paramount and I loved it.

Mimi - love the calico, we have one also. Lately my male tuxedo cat has been climbing on top of my head at 1:30 am and using it as a pillow. I don't know which is worse - reading and sharing or sleeping and sharing? ;)

wow! good for you. I've got it on my bookshelf, but it's such a tome that it's always intimidated me. although our teacher read the whole thing to us when I was in gr.6, (only the title was Jean Val-jean), and we all loved it. I'll have to give it another try. they have free dramatized versions on the net that intrigue me as well.

If I tried to read that, I bet I would hear the music in my head the whole time! LOL

This is one of Paul's favorite books, perhaps his very favorite. He uses the story about the bishop and the thief quite frequently. I, however, have a hard time making it through thick books like that. Maybe I'll give it another go starting in January. :-)

I've never seen the play, nor read the book...I guess I'm pretty uncultured ;-)

Gorgeous cat though :-)

That's on my "list" but I've never actually tried to read it. I'm glad you're liking it!

I read that book a long, long time ago and loved it. I've seen all the movies and the play on broadway (NYC) several times. It is my all time favorite musical. If you haven't seen it, you definitley need to! Enjoy the book!

I listened to the book on tape on a cross country car trip. I loved it. I love the play, and the music. Very touching and meaningful, enjoy!

The musical will grab you - if you get the chance to see it live - go.
