This morning, driving to work (late, we are getting hammered by snow again – while it is so gorgeous, we haven’t been over 35 degrees for days), I couldn’t settle on a radio station, I turned station to station to station. I turned on the MP3 player and turned it off, I finally hit on the NPR station (not even the one I usually listen to) and discovered this gem of an interview with Colum McCann about his new book Zoli about a Romani (Gypsy) Poet in the 1930s.
In college, I immersed myself in Romani history for a paper, and have always been interested in their story. It was a lovely interview to listen to, and the book is on the way to me.
It felt like there was a reason I didn’t settle on a station.
Stay safe and warm, and enjoy a good book.

we were trying to decide on a book to read together. This just might be it!!
Thank you!!
Fascinating! I'd like to read that.
I miss winter.
You keep warm too! We have spitting snow today...that is all.
It is cold though. Please keep me and all the folks in your prayers on our way to the Walk for Life and back home again later next week, will you? Thanks.
God bless, Mimi
That sounds interesting...I admit I don't know too much about them, but I'm sure it's fascinating.
isn't it nice when just the right thing comes on the radio? sounds very interesting!
One day my Grandmother made a reference that there was Gypsy blood in our family....
Whether it is true or not, I do not know... though I like to think that it is.
Stay warm and drive careful out there. It's cold here - winter finally arrived. Only 30-40 here all week. Brrrr!!
There was a (very favorable) review of Zoli in Harper's, I believe... or was it the New Yorker? Anyway, my curiosity was piqued, and your endorsement just makes it sound all the better. I'll have to add it to my list (o, how my list e'ergrowing). Thanks for being one of my favorite sources of bookommends.
Oh yeah, and the Cat Power/Gnarls/Flaming Lips show ROCKED MY WORLD. Got some great photos, too... may blog them someday... perhaps...
