I’m too short for my pants.
I bought a pair of sweat pants the other day, and apparently to be as big around as I am, you have to be about 5’8”. Since I’m not, it helped me to put into action my goal of getting into shape. It went on the list with my other reasons - I’m tired of feeling fat, cringing when I see a photo of myself, outgrowing my clothes, huffing and puffing, having a low HDL level (although my LDL level is also quite low), and seeing numbers on the scale I never even saw when I was expecting.
So, after cutting off about two inches on my sweats, Eddie and I have worked out four times now – we went to the Y last week and then yesterday went over to Evergreen and used their fitness room. I’ve discovered that I actually enjoy walking on the treadmill – I can do about three miles in an hour, work up a good sweat and keep up on my reading.
Alana pointed me to Fitday where I can keep track of what I am eating and how many calories they are. I can also track my exercising and weight goals.
So, dear blog readers, since it is De-Lurking week – my challenge to you is to remember to ask me “how are you doing on working out?”. Thanks! I’m planning on making my goal of being visibly thinner by our trip to Hawaii in March. I’ll keep you posted!

Thanks for the link to fitday. I too this last month stepped on that dreaded scale and have gone up 10lbs! How can that happen!
I started working out - if you can call 10 minutes in the morning and 10 at night working out. Good job on the treadmill. Thanks again for the site.
Hey, how's the workout thing going? I too will be trying to lose some wieght, my commencement is in 5 months, I want to look dashing!
Hope you keep it up -- I'm glad you're enjoying it.
And yeah...pants are always way too long on me too.
Me, too. Fortunately, my husband is ... attached to exercising. I had a good two weeks of going to the gym every day (yay to an on-campus gym), but that was in October. The plan is to go about three times a week, and we'll try to start going this evening. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one with intentions.
I think that's great that you started a regime. I'm planning to work hard this winter to lose weight too--I never want to make myself miserable, but I'd like to be healthy and look just a bit thinner and....wait a minute, did you say HAWAII??
Did you work out today???
I am cringing at photos as well, but not enough to actually exercise, but I have changed the diet and let's hope that works! I had the push I needed when lil Max told me, "Nice caboose, mom!" Yikes!
Best of Luck!! :)
If it makes anyone feel better, my coworkers and I have decided that the reason ALL PANTS ARE TOO LONG now is due to the fad of super-high heels over the last couple of years. They've made the pants long to accomadate the shoes. So now I can't buy pants for my 5'5" self that don't drag on the ground when I don't wear super-high heels. Although I DO love my four inch heels.
on the lighter side... i just tell people that i am in shape, and my shape is round.
we're cheering for you!!!!!
go for it, girlfriend...I am short, too (weel, normal imho) I ususally end up buying pants that are labelled "petite, short or ankle" they seem to work. The whole changing sizes all of the time thing is new to me since kids...it can be expensive esp. since jeans aren't cheap...thank God for thrift stores and drawstrings :) best wishes.
I too am only 5ft 3in and have a dreadful time trying to find any trousers which do not need at least 6inches hacking off before I can wear them !!
I am surveying my rotund tummy and have started serious walking with my DH to try to get back into some sort of shape..........
I'm about to do one of those annoying tag things to you! Consider yourself tagged! Check out my blog for the questions. Seriously, I won't be offended if you don't want to do it!
Arielle is totally right about pants being too long these days. I am 5'10" and I can wear regular length pants in most stores and have them be the right length. Now that's lovely for me and all, but seriously, most people aren't that tall, what about everyone shorter than I am?
Good for you! It sounds like you're starting with a bang - just diving right in. That's the way to do it. At least, that's what I've heard. Lately I've just been exercising my typing fingers. heh.
i bookmarked the fitday site and was very excited by all that alana wrote on her blog... but i'm going to sort of wait until after the baby is born:) I know i will have that good old baby weight to lose:)
i'm a new visitor, I just hopped over from Tenika's... FitDay rocks. And it's free!
Good luck!
aha, how's the exercise going? :)
Laura - enjoy the Pilates DVD. I've done pilates before and enjoyed it.
Meg - ayup. I hear you.
TM - I'm sure you'll look dashing at your commencement!
Katherine, Arielle, and Lizzie - I totally hear what you are saying about pants being made for heels, but for workout pants? Who works out in their heels? I'm five-six, so that's not overly short, either.
Ian - bwahahahahhahahaa. Home is lovely, and there IS chocolate there.
Magda - I'm an alumni at the college, so I got a break on the quarterly pass - yay me!
Stephanie - I did indeed say Hawaii. I'm flying out on March 26th, baby! No kids, just Eddie and me!
Herman - round is a shape. Grin.
Christina - you're growing a baby, that's exercise in itself, I think.
Christine - welcome.
Thanks to everyone for the encouragement, I'm still on track and worked out last night.
Good for you!
You'll feel SO much better!
You can do it kiddo!
