First Day of High School - I threw on my pj bottoms, a t-shirt, Eddie's sandals (I must have been so styling) and walked Cedric to the bus for his first day of High School. We've attended Freshman Orientation, bought school supplies, done math all summer - and we're ready. Or, I'm ready, I guess. This morning, his assessment was "I'm cold, I'm on my way to High School, and my brother will be with me after school - I'm not having fun".

Oh well, I'm hopeful it gets better. I'm so excited for him to begin this new journey in life - the class switching, the expansion of his friend network, the different thoughts and ideas that swirl around you in high school.
Tell me, does the feeling of remembering how it felt so strongly go away?
And, so I'm not remiss, First Day of Fourth Grade - Xavier was just as excited as Cedric was not to begin his first day of fourth grade. He has the same awesome teacher that Cedric had for 4-5 grades and is off on a learning adventure about exploration and voyages!

Ah high school, what a time. I loved high school and have really fond memories of it! No the feelings never go away. At least they haven't for me.
I took each of my kids to school the last day of high school. I said to each one, "I took you to school the first day of kindergarten to see you off into the new world of school. Today I take you to school to close that chapter with you." Then I bawled my eyes out! Though Bri got teary eyed with me.
Awesome! Totally awesome! Cedric will like it eventually. He's just nervous.
I liked high school too, but I know that girls and guys can have different reactions to it. Girls like it at first b/c all the male upper classmen pay attention to the "freshmen girls"...
Guys end up liking it, more or less, when they become big-shot juniors who have finally outgrown the girls in height, and have their licenses. I remember coming back to school my junior year and being like, "Whoa! who are these 'men'?"
But enough of my hormone-raging days of high school. I truly hope Cedric has a great experience :)
mimi-
girl, you and i have so much in common...i have a fourth grader too!! the real estate thing and now this, i am starting to think that you and i are 2 peas in a pod!! :)
i clearly remember my first day of hs and almost every day after that. i loved it! (and this from a girl that went to a private all girl school)
Our first day of school i heard, "of course you had to bring that camera" followed by an eye roll.
best wishes for a happy, healthy and safe new school year!
Hmmmm...Can't help it, but you look SO familiar! I went to CKU San Jose also...did we meet? I was in the dorm of silly nuns as "Sister Stephanie, Mother of Un-do Mercy" (LOVED CKU! maybe we had a class together?)
High school is such a wild ride. Four years of intense hormones, contradictions, trial/error, fun, fear...I loved it. I still keep in touch with my classmates...30 years later! Seems like yesterday...
I think the most important thing one can do to stay young is to remember what it's like to be young. I try to keep all my memories close.
Wow - you have a highschooler - that's awesome! and you look so young!
Seriously though...I hope these years aren't too tough on any of you. I know HS can be hard.
Thank you for all your warm and wonderful wishes - so far so good, high school has gone well. Ced even had to change a class and got one he's very excited about!
Philippa - what a wonderful tradition, I'm going to implement it!
Stephanie - yes, I was at CKU San Jose - I bet we did have classes together! Great dorm idea, by the way!
I still have my "Freshman Orientation Guide" from HS and college, and that was many, *cough* many...er...weeks ago. *G*
Just reading your post brought back the memories of how exciting those days were.
