Never confuse the person, formed in the image of God, with the evil that
is in him; because evil is but a chance misfortune, an illness, a
devilish reverie. But the very essence of the person is the image of
God, and this remains in him despite every disfigurement.

St. John of Kronstadt

This quote came through my email, and I've been chewing on it for the past few days. I think they are words to live by.

I own St. John of Kronstadt's "My Life in Christ" but I've not read it yet. I think it is time.

I just read that the other day, too. Picked up that book at the parish bookstore and flipped through it for a few minutes.

Good quote! Helps me with my divorce. My best man called last night and helped me to see this very quote, and now you, so I must chew on it too. Thank you!

PS I have St. John's icon up in my room and he is intercessor for studies and I have his akathist which I copied out of my former housemate John's akathist book - so the saints intercede and fight for me - and there is one right now!
Holy Saint John of Kronstadt pray to God for us!

I love St John, thank you for this amazing quote. What a hard thing for me to remember! I should print it in big letters and read it every day! Pray for me a sinner. I read the autobiography of St Thaisia earlier this year. Her recordings of her conversations with St John were wonderful.
