How big are my expectations? Today, they are Great indeed!

As much as I want to see the photos of Graeme's gravesite, thank you Chocolate Teapot*, I've decided to read Great Expectations as our latest Read-along.  I'll start this week, and have the first questions posted on Monday, June 7th!

All I know about it is that there's a character named Pip, it was mentioned in the Blindside, and it does not start, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."

Come along with me on this journey!

*maybe we can do Wind in the Willows in August? Would that work?

And I was just trying to decide what to read on the plane! Perfect! I've never read Great Expectations either, though I've been introduced to the story via a good BBC radio dramatization.

Oh I haven't read GE for years, but I encountered Pip back in my early teens/later childhood....I can't wait to read it with all y'all! And Wind in the Willows in August, what a treat! I want to join!!

It was the character of Miss Havisham from the Thursday Next books that made me decide to read Great Expectations a couple of years ago. "South Park" does a funny "GE" spoof, too, as I recall.

August seems like the perfect month to read "The Wind in the Willows!"

Ooo, yes on Dickens and Grahame. Both good choices.

Read Great Expectations years ago and was a little surprised by it. I can imagine it being turned into a movie more easily than a lot of other Dickens fare, for reasons that might make more sense once people have read some of it.

Whoops, forgot to ask -- how many chapters do you want us to read for the first portion?

I'm glad to have you all along! My edition appears to have 59 chapters, so I was thinking four sets of questions - the first three of 15 chapters, and the last of 14.

@Janelle - Oooh, that's a good point, I should re-read "Thursday Next" (I'm always up for that ;) ) She also makes an appearance, IIRC, in the Disney movie, "The Great Mouse Detective"
