Finale and Final Thoughts
Discuss the finale - the marriage of Fred and Mary, the marriage of Lydgate and Rosamond, Lydgate's dying young, and the marriage of Dorothea and Ladislaw, and the ultimate reconciliation between Dorothea and Celia.
Did you think this was a satisfying ending to this novel?
What are your final thoughts on the novel? Was it a good read? Was it an easy read? Are you glad that you read it? What will you take away from it?
Thank you to everyone who followed along with me on this wonderful read-along! Next time, I think we'll pick a shorter book.

I'm going to go back and answer some of the questions in a minute, but I really loved the finale - I'm a sucker for those kinds of "and the rest of the story" endings.
I thought it was interesting that Lydgate and Rosamond stayed married, and reasonably happily even. But, it was sad that Lydgate died young.
I liked the ending of Dorothea's storyline, but found it interesting that she and Will, in addition to Lydgate and Rosamond ended up in London.
I thought the novel was a very good read, but I was ready for it to end when it did - I felt the storyline had been spent.
Dear Mimi (a little off topic for this post), Christ is risen! I wish you all the joy of the Resurrection, and the delight and renewal of Bright Week!
Christ is Risen!Have a blessed Easter!
Can you believe I just finished this book on Monday. Good heavens, it took me forever. I loved the "rest of the story" endings as well! I was sad for Lydgate dying young and thought Rosamond turned out to be such a beast, even though she had some redemptive moments. I'm glad that their marriage was saved, nonetheless.
It was nice to read the Ladislaws lived happy lives, but what brought me the most satisfaction was Fred and Mary Vincy. You can't not love the Garths.
Brilliant story but almost a little too much going on. Somewhat tedious to read, and parts of the story involving things like the Reform Bill went right over my little head. I loved how I wound up absolutely adoring poor Dodo. I think I'm going to watch the movie on Netflix now! :)
