Nativity Read Along!

As we finished up the read along of Little Women in August, there was discussion of doing another one. As we are approaching the Nativity Fast (starting November 15th), I thought I’d gather some input as to what book we should read.

Some ideas I had were:

To continue our Louisa May Alcott reading and choose Old Fashioned Girl or Eight Cousins

We could continue the discussion by choosing Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan.

To prepare for the new movie, we could do Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.

I am ashamed to admit that I’ve only read one Jane Austen, so we could choose Sense and Sensibility or Emma.

And, I’ve also got Middlemarch on my “To read” pile.

What say you? What sounds good? Suggestions welcome.

I think you should read Middlemarch. That is one of my all-time favorite books! I finished it in February of this year. But it was a hard read for me, and it took me many months to get through it. I would check in with you and your readers for sure if you did that one (well I would also check in whatever you do)! I would also be interested in seeing you read Bunyan's work--and I have only read Pride and Prejudice..

I also recently read about the Catholic writer Francois Mauriac. I know we are both Orthodox, but I am sure he has profound things to say. Have you ever read any of his stuff? Just curious. This is for my own enlightenment--just because I know you have read so much.

I think to continue with Louisa May Alcott's books would be nice...her birthday is Nov 29th, after all. Let me know what you do and I think I'd like to join in...

I've had Middlemarch on my TBR pile for years...might be nice to finish it off once and for all!

I'd vote for Emma... except that I said I'd join in last time and didn't...

I won't vote since I'd do any of them this time. I skipped the first series you did. Busy moving and all. I'll keep checking back so I have time to get a copy!

I'm in the same boat as Margaret... I said I would join in but wasn't able to. You are hoping for fictional stuff? If not, how about "Irrational Season" by L'Engel? It follows the liturgical year beginning at Advent. Just a thought. I loved *Middlemarch*. I also like the Austen suggestions.

Ooh, I vote for either An Old Fashioned Girl or a Jane Austen pick! :) I'm aboard no matter what though!

Well, I'm a sucker for Jane Austen. But all of the choices sound great; although, I own Middlemarch and I've never gotten around to reading it.
