A Woman’s Daybook For Today...
Outside my Window...We are in a freezing fog pattern, but I did hear rumblings of snow this weekend.
I am thinking.... my Dictionary Word of the Day for Tuesday was: pandiculation \pan-dik-yuh-LEY-shuhn\, noun: an instinctive stretching, as on awakening or while yawning. I have always loved what I now know to be a pandiculation that babies will do with their fists closed, that moment of awakening always melts my heart. Thinking about my babies who have made that movement (who are now almost an adult and almost a teenager) was a tender moment.
From the learning rooms...The oldest still hasn’t found a volunteer opportunity, bangs head on desk. The X-man finished the third Charlie Bone book and I just ordered the fourth for him.
I am thankful for...health, happiness and love
From the kitchen…I’m thinking of asking Dh to make his version of spanakopita, and probably Artisan Bread on the side.
I am wearing... a blue sweater I got for Christmas, a black skirt, and black tights.
I am reading...The Story of Edgar Sawtelle for Book Club. I’m not loving it.
I am hoping...that my boys know how much I love them and wish the best for them. It’s hard to believe how much they have grown since those infant days.
I am creating...a giveaway, yanked from Laura’s Blog:
The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me. It will be about or tailored to those five people.
This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
- What I create will be just for you.
- It’ll be completed this year.
- You have no clue what it’s going to be or when its going to be. It may be fiction. It may be poetry. I may draw or paint something. I may bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that’s for sure!
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.
The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to put this in your journal as well, if you expect me to do something for you!
Originated by the lovely and talented Jocelyn .
I am hearing..So Alive by Love and Rockets I’ve always loved the lyrics of this song.
Around the house...I am so glad that we had our Houseblessing on Monday (and it went very well, thank you) as we are refinancing and the appraiser comes tomorrow.
One of my favorite things...I appreciated everyone’s comments about my book list. I do read fast, but am way outpaced by my mother. My Dh is a much slower reader; he tends to work for months on one book.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...tonight, cleaning for the appraiser. Saturday both scrapbooking and a dinner for Dh’s work.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...Ready for the Houseblessing.

My husband loves our Teddy's pandiculation as well. I can't wait to start sharing neat words with Teddy!
Have you checked out volunteermatch.org for your older son? There seem to be some data-entry-type things on there in your area at first glance. I'm not sure what he needs the volunteer hours for (and therefore what would qualify), but maybe he could ask to help out with things at church (folding bulletins, helping with mailings, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping, etc.). Maybe there are older parishioners/neighbors who need help around the house (changing light bulbs or yardwork)?
I am very good at finding work for other people to do, no?
For my 18th birthday, my mother and I went to Casa Juan Diego (the Houston Catholic Worker House) and folded clothes. It was fun for the first two hours, and then I realized that I got tired a lot more easily than my mother did.
Magda - THANK YOU! No, I'd not seen that website before.
I actually threatened him with me calling our priest - as right now he's not attending church - to find a volunteer opportunity there.
And, wheeee! I get to make something for you. Awesome.
We are thinking about doing a refinancing, too. Maybe I should do a little house blessing of my own!
I have never heard "pandiculation" before. What a great word! I can imagine how cute your boys were as babies.
I heard that Edgar Sawtelle was a dud. I've often longed to be in a bookclub, but dreaded the inevitable duds that would come along that I would be obligate to read.
how did you find your bookclub and how do your members choose their books?
Oh hey I snuck it at number 5
what do you want me to put in my journal?
I am in fear of what you could make that would be personalized towards me. Just remember, I don't have big hair anymore, and that was the 80's, everyone had it!

I LOVE So Alive... AWESOME song!! Adding it to my ipod as soon as I post this. Thanks for reminding me of a great song!
Oh... and spanakopita sounds delish... I'm eating a nice boring baked potato.
what do you want me to put in my journal?
If you are up to it, pay it forward by giving something small and handmade to the first five to comment on your blog.
fun! even if I am out of the top 5 :)
lots going on for you! wonderful that you had your house blessed. all the best on the refinancing bit.
blue sweater with black skirt - very nice. Take good care!
I just finished reading edgar sawtelle and it is a dud. I should know better than to trust Oprah for a book. It sounded interesting, but it wasn't. That's about all i have to say about that.
This was such a lovely Daybook... I'm glad you're doing it, because you've reminded me that I need to start it up again soon.
I love the idea of a secret gift. How sweet.
Bummer...I didn't make the first 5, but what a curious "mystery" giveaway! I see you're going to do the ATC swap over on Kristina's blog: http://meadowlarkdays.blogspot.com/
Let's "recruit" more to join us!!!
Send your son to me. I've plenty of "volunteer" work that can be done around the house. Cleaning windows comes immediately to mind.
:o)
I am happy for the house blessing!
Sounds like you've had a good week or so!
Oh sure -- now I have "So Alive" in my head. Thanks, Mimi. ;)
Happy Houseblessing !
Oh my gosh. Love and Rockets.
I love the word pandiculation! Max had the craziest head/back arching thing he did when he was tiny... I wish I'd caught it on film. *sigh*
Off to check out your book list and see what I need!
Mimi:
Quick note to say thank you for your continued blogging . . . an oasis of peace here.
and . . . 108 books!!?! Wow.
We had our house blessed when we moved in to it. Not many people do that anymore.
I love the Epiphany season house blessings! Still have to get mine done... :)
