Thanks so much for the Pita Bread suggestions – I found a recipe online that I can’t find again, but it basically had me make the pitas, then let it rise. It worked out great, especially once I figured out the right size to make them (too big, and they don’t rise right).
Elizabeth, you are right, they cooked like a dream on the baking stone. And, Floyd (thanks for stopping by) has a great Blog with a good recipe on it, which I will try next time.
Elizabeth also pointed out that if I posted photos, I’d have bread in my virtual breadbox. Bwahahahahahaha!
I can’t wait for lunchtime to have my leftovers! Yum!
I didn’t make it to exercise while they were rising, but I will do so tonight. I’m working on re-reading The Brothers Karamazov, both Laura and Dawn mentioned it to me recently, after a woman at my church did too. I figured it must mean that it is time to re-read it; my last time was before Xavy was born, and before I was Orthodox.
Oh, and a few months ago, Cedric put green food coloring in our milk. Apparently he also put it that same day into our Lemon Juice, which I found out while making a Tahini Sauce. The sauce turned out great, if a bit green – which was interesting as your brain looks at that color and says “frosting” and is surprised by the taste.

glad they turned out!! sounds soooo good.
Mmm...homemade pitas--I bet those are goooood! And green tahini! How festive, LOL!
Brothers K has long been one of my favorite books. i think it's about time i read it again. and if we end up at U. of Washington we'll have to arrange a real-life blogger's meeting! Especially since I know absolutely no one else in the area!
We love flatbreads with curry and other spicy meals, coriander naan bread is especially good :-)
God Bless.
Homemade pita...Wow!!
I am completely disfunctional with any recipe made with yeast that is not pizza.
I am green (like your tahini) with envy.
I've done pita and plan to make it again soon....but bagels I've not had success with. Laura, do you have a recipe to share?
Laura - like Elizabeth, I've never tried bagels, and I think they are harder than Pita. If you are emailing out recipes, I'd also love one.
Cracking up, Simone at this line I am green (like your tahini) with envy. Giggle.
Laura and Laurie - I am finding "The Brothers K" a slow read, but it's good. The last time I read it, it was for class so I was reading for influences, cultural issues, those sorts of things so it is nice to read it for me this time. It's not an easy red though.
And, Laurie, if you end up in Washington, I'd love to meet you - Elizabeth and Dawn are close too - we could make it a "day"
Gregory - giggle.
Janelle - Yes, I didn't think about the proximity to St. Patrick's Day!
Oh, and UK - thanks for the Na'an link, I think I will try that one too.
Ooh, LOVE tahini sauce :)
I've never read Brothers K. Whoops!
When I worked at a preschool, they put green dye in the milk and all the babies pooped green and scared their parents later that night.
My husband read Brother's K in college, as a Roman Catholic, then recently again as a Byzantine Catholic, and said it was so much more meaningful with an Eastern understanding. It's on my list this week as well. Enjoy@
