The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

I had really resisted reading this book – I kept hearing that it was a Sci-Fi book, and not being a Sci-Fi reader didn’t pick it up. I bought it several months ago, and the other day decided to give it a try.

It is *so* not a Sci-Fi book, it is a true and classic love story. I was hooked as soon as I began reading it, and couldn’t wait to read more as soon as I got home. On Wednesday night, there was an intense foreshadowing scene, and I found myself sobbing through it (enough so that Eddie asked me if I wanted him to put the book in the freezer).

So, I finished it last night while working out, sobbing through the entire ending. The guy at the machine next to me was kind enough to not ask me what was wrong, but I’m sure he was thinking “I hope this workout goes quickly, there’s a crazy lady next to me”. This book is truly a keeper and one I’ll read again and again, crying the entire time, I’m sure.

Let me know what you thought, and if you’ve read it, I have a couple of quick questions I want to bounce off you.

Happy Friday and Happy Reading! (Xavier is working on a “Hardy Boys” for school, so he’s been reading with me in the evenings. It’s been lovely)

hmmmm, I think I just may pick it up now. I've also resisted reading it.
it looked like another 'oprah pick'.
I'll let you know how it goes...

is it a love-story "sci fi" style? or is there nothing sci-fi about it?

and i love that i'm not the only one who can reference a friends episode at the drop of a hat.

Oh, I've been waiting to read it! Hold onto it until I get there - 22 days from now (omigosh!). Thanks, sweetie! My two favorite older grandsons, a good book, and Washington - what more could I ask for? Except maybe some shopping time at a really great scrap store . . .

This is one of my all time favorite books! But I would never have thought of it as a sci-fi! As a rule, I don't read sci-fi. I want to read it again. I checked it out from the library, so I think I'll need to go to Barnes and Noble tomorrow. :)

I tried to read it a couple of years ago, but it didn't grab me then. Do you ever have the experience when you're kind of distracted, and you try to read, and it doesn't grab you, and you think it's the book? Then if you give it a chance you realize it was just that you were distracted. I've been doing that a lot lately. I think my brain is going. :-P

Anyway, I think I'll try it again.

I'm not so much a fan of fiction, but I just might pick this one up as soon as I'm done with Agent of Byzantium

You make me want to give that book another shot. I tried reading it a few months ago and it just didn't "grab" me. I have this 100 page rule; if I'm not loving a book by p.100, I usually give up and move on to something else. Do you think I just didn't give it enough of a chance?

I started this book about 6 months ago. Life got in the way and I never finished. I am going to dust it off and try again!

I really liked this book, which I read at some point in the last month. At first I was all: uh-oh, who knows how the time-line is put together? and how is this going to work? (Smoothly and elegantly, as it turned out.) As the plot progressed, I was in awe of the author. (How would you start this kind of a timeline?) I wish there were more books like this.

Bounce away with your quick questions, O Mimi-licious one.

I got through the book but didn't enjoy it one bit and I LOVE love stories.
Maybe this is a rumour but I heard that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston purchased the rights to the book before they broke up. They had plans to turn it into a movie.
If you're looking for another good read I just finished Deafening by Francis Itani (sp?). Now that's love!
