I Grew Up in the Boonies, but I'm a city girl.
I was thinking about this last night – our bedroom is on the street side of the house, so we have a streetlight that shines into our room at night. Except lately, there’s been something wrong with the ballast so it only intermittently shines in our room. Last night, it must have burned out the bulb as we were only illumined by the moonlight. I think I slept better without that light, and I hope the HOA doesn’t notice it too quickly.
The other thing that made me think about being a city girl, though, was the fact that I was downtown meeting Kirstin for coffee, she’s visiting from Berkeley where she’s getting her Master’s Degree. I don’t worry at all about walking at night in our lovely city, and I’m thankful for that (the cities I did grow up near weren’t safe at night). It was a wonderful fall night, and everyone I passed smiled and nodded. We had a lovely coffee, and then wandered over to the used book store, where Miss K picked up “The Way of the Pilgrim” (on my recommendation) and “ The Forgotten Desert Mothers” as she’s in seminary, and I picked up a young adult book about Anna Comnena, since I’m not. (I owe her .50 for that too, thanks K!)
Then, I came home and still watched nearly half of the World Series game, and yet still managed to fall asleep before the Sox pulled it off! Go Sox!

I told you, you don't owe me $.50. You can if you want, but you don't have to.
That was really fun! It was so very good to see you.
I grew up in the city, and now live in the country! During the summer, the house across the street from us was purchased by someone from around Boston, and the first thing they did was put in a porch light that shines all night -- right into our bedrooms. I didn't have a single restful night until about three weeks ago, when I finally got fed up enough to change the position of the bed, and now I sleep the way I used to. Drat them city lights...
I grew up in a pretty small town in Ohio and now live in a sort of small town in MA. But the best part of my town is that although it's small, it's a college town (five of them in the immediate area) so has a lot of things that big towns have, too. And I love the college atmosphere here.
I am a total city girl, born and raised in Portland, OR. But I did go to college in Walla Walla and I loved it:) My husband is from a small town in Michigan and has yet to love living in Portland:(
Woo Hoo!! How bout those Sox!!
Funny, how I am such a city girl I can't sleep if it's too quiet or dark! :)
Ooooh, you're making me miss Oly!! I love the downtown area, B&B (I'm assuming that's where you went?), Sylvester Park...good times. Oly is the best of both worlds--great downtown w/o all the traffic.
Can't wait to see you Sat!! :)
Oh, sounds like such a wonderful evening!
Aren't used book stores the best?? (Berkeley has Tons of them...Pegasus on Solano and Moes on Telegraph are my favorite if you ever visit...)
