A Woman’s Daybook

For Thursday, May 21st

Outside my window...It’s finally spring. Warm and sunny more often than not.
I am thinking...about pride and humility. The X-man asked me some questions about it and I’ve not quite gotten my thoughts together.
I am thankful for...the opportunity last week to sit for a friend’s baby. He is brand new and it was delightful.
From the learning rooms…The Oldest graduates in the middle of next month. The X-man stayed for a math study session on Tuesday and thinks that he did well on his test.
From the kitchen...Last week, I made Red Pepper Fougasse – I’d never roasted red peppers before, they were quite easy
I am wearing... one of my favorites - a Coldwater Creek black skirt with white embroidery, and a black top. On my feet are Clarks sandals and freshly painted toenails.
I am creating...I finished up my ATCs last night, I have some pages to finish – I’m in a creating mood.
I am going...to a Mariners’ game on Saturday night after meeting my cousin’s little girl at a family party
I am reading...Something Rising (Light and Swift) by Haven Kimmel. I’ve read non-fiction by the author before, but this is the first novel of hers I’ve read. So far, I’m finding the stream of consciousness style less than fab, but I’m only about halfway through.
I am hoping...that the Oldest gets his Graduation announcements finished soon so I can mail them out. That, and that a few extra tickets to the ceremony come our way. Oh, and I’ve never had this situation before – it is appropriate to send announcements to people for whom there aren’t tickets, right? How does this work? Growing up, we just graduated on the football field – there was no admission thing.
I am hearing...while it’s not currently on the radio (the delightfully catchy Say Hey by Michael Frenti and Spearhead is) but my new favorite song is Sometime Around Midnight by The Airborne Toxic Event
Around the house...I overslept and didn’t get the dishes done this morning.
One of my favorite things...freshly painted toenails
A few plans for the rest of the week – Tonight, the X-man has baseball practice, I may try to get some laps in during (although, reading instead is always a tempatation), see above for Saturday’s plans, I’m looking forward to a hopefully sunny Memorial Day.
Here is picture thought I am sharing... I was going to post a photo of a mystery plant in our yard for identification (I think it may be a lilac) but since I was running late, I’ll have to wait on that.

People theses days send announcements, not invitations. You need to be a CLOSE relative to get a ticket.
How are you, by the way:)

Wow, graduation is close!! How fun. Announcements are pretty normal around here too. It doesn't have the place and time, right? Then they'll know it isn't an invitation.

That fougasse sounded great...I can imagine it with chicken inside, too. Mmmm!

P.S. On my blog you asked about our dog's name...she came with the name "Lusy" (from a Russian family) and I think they chose that spelling because in English sometimes the C sounds hard, but we pronounce it "Lucy."

Uh oh...am I the last one to get my ATCs done? They aren't finished yet...are you planning on mailing them Saturday? If so, I could get them to you that morning because I need to sleep right now!

Are you having a graduation party? My nephew graduates on the 4th and only close family members get to see the ceremony, but Mom is inviting everyone else to his party. It's a much better option for most people...celebrate the kid without sitting through a boring commencement! As a teacher, I love graduation every year because I know most of the kids. Sitting through Katie’s graduations was fairly brutal…I read a book during much of her college graduation!

I love my Clarks sandals :) They are the only shoes I brought with me on my trip.

Lucky you, getting to sit for a sweet little newborn! And a Mariners game, too--wish I could go!

Did you see the Youtube about the banker and the Momma and baby ducks in Spokane? Cute cute story and video!

I love Haven Kimmel, though I think the one you mentioned isn't my favorite. Used Things is another novel of hers, and it spoke to me, it was so evocative of my life.

I like Coldwater Creek too. Just bought a skirt there recently with jacket that I've gotten a lot of compliments on...

Thanks for the help on the invitations, they are in the mail.

Marfa - I agree, while I don't eat chicken, I think it'll work with lots of yummy stuff in it - I threw some feta on it the next day for lunch and it was lovely.

Elizabeth - it's not that wise, trust me, but thank you.

Michelle - yes, I take my Clarks on vacation too. So comfy and cute.

Janelle - I'm still kind of on a baby high. Sigh.

Rosemary - I did see that but didn't realize the ducks were in Spokane. And, I agree, the secret to a good wardrobe is Coldwater Creek, I bet you look fabulous!

And, Margi, you got it, but I'm deleting your comment so you don't get nasty spam.

Marsha - I'll have to look for that one, I wasn't all that impressed with this Kimmel book. Didn't dislike it, particuarly, just didn't like it all that much either.
