I have weightier ideas floating around in my head, but I have found these past couple of days that I have been commenting around the blogsphere about the coziness of my bed.
A few months ago, I was asked to pick my favorite spot for a Circle Journal I was working on, and my choice was my bed. This is the spot that I am able to curl up in, relax at the end of the day, catch up on my reading, spend time talking with my love, and lay in bed and see both the nightstand handmade by my husband, and my small icon corner. It is truly my retreat and my respite.
Earlier this week, UPS delivered a new treat for my bed – a down comforter that Dh and I picked out (from Costco). We dug out an old duvet cover (we’d never quite liked the synthetic duvet, though) and have been entrenched under a cozy fluffy weight ever since. I joked on my Facebook page that I may never get out of bed again. Although, truth be told, my flannel sheets totally clash with my duvet cover – maybe I’ll put a solid color set on my Christmas list.
While Autumn is one of my four favorite seasons, I admit to it bringing to me a hibernating desire, there’s nothing that I’d love more than to never leave the house during Fall and Winter, just sit by the fire or cuddle up on my bed and read. Alas, I have work to do, places to go, and people to see.
Enjoy a cozy weekend!

Oh Mimi, you might just convince me to get a down comforter too...well maybe because it does drop into the low 60's here. :-)
Seriously, enjoy your lovely bed!
We haven't broken out either of our two down comforters yet, but the flannel sheets are definitely getting put on the bed tomorrow!
I love my bed too. I'm sitting in it right now and my feet are nice and cozy under down.
I love down comforters!!
Happy Name Day!

LOL, Mimi-- did you happen to notice the graphic in my navigation bar about using laptops in bed? It reads,
"My morning routine:
1. Wake up.
2. Catch up on the lives of friends from around the world.
3. Get out of bed.
Laptops are WEIRD!"
Had to post it when I found it, because I do that too.
It's great that you have such a lovely retreat... I think that's important. And you will LOVE having a down comforter! Next you'll have to get a down mattress protector and then you'll never want to get up in the morning, ha.
Hugs!
Mimi,
How did the football season end up?
Did your son enjoy the game?
Do you think he will play again?
Lucky you!
It never quite gets cold enough down here to warrant down comforters, unfortunately. But maybe it will this winter.
I will decide about buying one of those after we move back from HI. I see Esther has one, so perhaps . . . when we get there? I have my bedroom window open at the moment. It's like 76 degrees in my townhouse right now. I'm also gutting (cleaning) the kids bathroom after I tear myself away from the PC. I got a nice down throw for the sofa a few weeks ago at Kohl's for about $20 on sale. it's burgundy. Lovely lovely lovely.
i love cozy warm times too! and reading books... :)
I dig my bed, too, especially since we still haven't switched the heater on for the season. So after dinner, the boys and I usually spend the rest of the evening snuggled up in the parental bed reading, watching DVDs or just playing with the kitties.
It's getting warmer in Oz. I miss the cooler [it never really gets cold here, at least compared to what you go through] weather.
Going to bed early with a book is one of my very favorite indulgences. Now that we have a new, larger bed, and now that the down comforter came out of storage last week, it really feels decadent. And now it's getting dark at 5:30, so I can slip away to bed even earlier, LOL. Glad you're enjoying your comforter, too!
we just received new comforters from the inlaws. I sleep so much better now that I am warm. And my back is less stiff. How about that?
I have a favorite blanket, one that someone gave my wife but she didn't like, made up of scraps but its very warm and it gets a workout this time of year. We keep the temp lower, around 62 at night, to save $$$ and wear sweat pants etc., topped by a blanket. A good movie, some comfort food, and a warm blanket are hard to beat.
we bought a down comforter after we returned from Greece on year, and on the way home, had an overnight layover in Copenhagen.
That was 22 years ago!!
Same down comforter, same snuggly comfort, after all these years.
I always take it off, put it on, take it off, put it on, in the spring and fall.
have fun enjoying those cold winter nights under that wonderful down!!!

I finally made it over to your blog -- seems we have similar taste! :)
I have such a love-hate relationship with my bed. I had such hip/back problems during my pregnancies (3 in the past 4 years), that I fell in love with our couch. Until we got a 4" mattress topper from Costco. Now, I only hate that I spend so little time in my bed. These days I am so exhausted I fall asleep as soon as I tuck in. I long for the day to return that I can sit in bed and read before bed.
None of our flannel sheets match our duvet covers either :-)
But at least we are warm-ish !
Esther Bwahahahahhaa, yeah, I’m thinking down comforters aren’t a good idea in Hawaii.
Madga Does it get cool enough for you to use a down comforter?
Rosemary and Karen Oooh, with wireless in combination with my down comforter, I definitely could see the argument to not get out of bed.
Lizzie Thanks!
RW Thank you for asking. They didn’t win any games, but the X-Man did make a great touchdown. I think he really enjoyed the season, and he’s playing in a holiday tournament in a couple of weeks. Good luck to your son in the playoffs!
Kristina I bet you miss them, they are true luxury, I’ve discovered.
Sarah I’d wait until after you get back from HI, I think Esther was teasing.
Molly I think that sound grand, as does reading, Elizabeth
Father, bless That sounds absolutely luxurious!
Janelle - I know, 5:30 sounds perfectly reasonable to crawl into bed to read, no?
Susan Whohoooo! It’s great to see you! Oooh buying one in Europe, that’s a treat! Oooooh.
Elizabeth I don’t think it is a terrible faux pas.
Iconography Girl It is lovely to have you stop by! I remember when the kids were little thinking I’d never read a book again, it truly happens again. And, I’m so glad your new bedding has made sleeping better – it’s truly life’s pleasure!
