There’s a corny joke in here somewhere. Our CSA has been quite corn bountiful this year (the farmer who writes the newsletter explained that they usually plant two sets of corn because usually either the early or late plantings die off due to weather patterns, but this year they both made it). After having a lot of corn with dinner, we still had several ears in the fridge. Upon Michelle’s suggestion, I decided to blanch them and put the corn up for winter soups and casseroles. I found this wonderful site with lots of tips.
Although, let me tell you, pretty picture aside from the site, getting the corn off the cob, even with your husband’s best knife is not pretty or easy. (upon a second look at the site – maybe I need one of these tools? )

But, the bounty must have ended because yesterday’s box had no corn. But it did have some great looking leeks, I’m hoping for a potato-leek soup tonight.

Afterwards, I’ll watch the season premiere of The Office!

so, I take it your'e having soup worthy weather? It's just a tad too warm for me to make soup yet but when I do it will for sure have leeks in it. Yum. Enjoy!

I love leeks!

They are grossly underused and undergrown in this part of the country.

Bon Apetit!

Mmmmmmm, corn. In all its many delicious permutations. Mmmmmm.

And leeks are pretty good too, though not quite as good as corn. Your soup sounds delicious!

You can come over any time for dinner, we'll feed you! I love potato leek soup, in fact I had some for lunch today too.

Yes, Annie, it's definitely soup weather here - we went Spring-more Spring-Fall instead of having a summer. And, I'm so glad you got the book, thank you!

-C - grossly underused? I can't imagine. I'm sorry.

Deb - what is a jacket potato? A baked potato? I always think of England when I have leeks.

Yum! I miss Common Ground.

There's a good potato-leek soup recipe in one of the (first two) Moosewoods. It's labor-intensive and you need a blender, but I like it.

We're having Oly weather here. I'm loving it.

When we went to the fair Doug got a corn cob, and then we had to try to figure out how to get some off for Kate (who loves corn, though I think it might upset her tummy). Doug was trying to pry it off with a plastic fork, which just wasn't working, so I ended up biting it off. I hope I didn't disturb any onlookers.

I remember doing that too, Helena, for the kids.

Denise - my Dh is the cook, I'll ask him what the recipe is.
