Baby needs a new pair of shoes!
A few weeks ago, my boss looked over at my well-loved and well-worn Payless Shoe source navy oxfords and told me I needed new shoes. I’ve always been a wear a cheap pair of shoes until they fall off kind of girl, but as I get older and my feet get fatter, I’ve come to love the comfort of a good pair of shoes. I have a few pairs of Lands End Shoes that I really love and they feel so good on.
I took this advice and kept it in the back of my mind. Then, my cheap pair of black Mary Janes broke (when a client stepped on the back end of them as I was walking into a house). It wasn’t her fault, though, as when I looked to see if I could fix them, I realized the other one was just about to fall off too.
So, I was realizing I needed to do some serious shoe shopping. I perused Zappos. After I got up off the floor at the prices I realized that if I wanted good, solid, good for my feet shoes, I was going to have to buck up and start paying a pretty penny.
We went to Bellevue Square while we were at the Bellevue Expo last week, and I was regaling my friend with this story. On our way back to the car, she stopped off at JCPenny to look at a pair of gloves for her mom, and I wandered into the shoe section and found a good, solid pair of St. John’s shoes on sale. On Sale even!
I was down to needing a good pair of Navy shoes.
This Monday, I had a class at the local casino taught by Natalie Danielson – she's hysterical and full of good information. When I told my boss where the class was, she teased me about buying a new pair of shoes off the casino winnings. “Baby needs a new pair of shoes”.

Well, I didn’t play the slots and I didn’t wait – I found a good deal on a pair of Naturalizers at Macys on Friday night and have all the shoes I need right now.
But, the class was fabulous. We had a great topic about Realtor Safety – good tips for buyers, sellers and agents. One of the things we learned was if you ever walk into a house that turns out to be a meth lab, turn right around and walk right out. Don’t touch anything. And leave your shoes in the house because they’ve been contaminated. I just hope if I ever have that happen, I’m not wearing my new shoes

I LOVE shoes. But I'm also the sort of person who wears them until they're unwearable.
Cute shoes. And that's too funny about the meth lab. Good to know :)
I love shoes too. Especially clogs of any sort. I now am the happy owner of Minetonka clogs and 2 pair of mocassins, Bass clogs (like pseudo-Birkenstock kind), and a bunch of others. My feet hurt most of the day, so to find shoes that are comfortable is a blessing. I'm still looking. And am open to suggestions too.
My mother swears by SAS shoes. I myself shop at the high boutique of the HC swap meet.
And I paused while I was typing this and MADE you a wikipedia SAS page to link to because their website is bleh and unhelpful (and I'm a geek!), although their shoes are definitely comfortable, and they get good reviews: like this.
I have a thing for comfortable shoes. My newest find, Crocs! The rubber clogs with holes in them. I suppose they would look funny in a business environment. They're the most comfortable shoes I've ever found. My mom bought me some cute Dansko clogs when she was here. I always go back to the Crocs though.
The thing about the meth labs, scary. I'm going to have to ask my mom or step-dad if they've ever had that experience.
Shoes is one place where I tend to sacrifice comfort for fashion, and my feet . . .well, they hate me for it. So this post is a wealth of useful information. 1.) I can have fashion and comfort too, and 2.) the meth lab stuff. I kind of think, though, that if I walked into a house (judging by the few houses I regularly walk into) and discovered that it was a meth lab, I would be too shocked to remember the advice. "Ummm, sorry, Mrs. Thompson, I, uh, just remembered that I *do* have eggs so if you could just be so kind as to open the door so I don't have to touch it and, uh, here, these shoes aren't comfortable but they look fabulous so, uh, my gift to you! See you at soccer!"
Meth lab, eh? I used to live in Coos County, apparently it is the country's meth capital. Ick.
Glad you're discovering the joys of comfy, quality shoes! I used to be a strictly-Payless person, but I now enjoy finding deals on e-bay (danskos are a definete favorite... Philippa I recommend the Dansko "Quinn"-- instant comfort).
Sometimes you have to buck up and pay more, and then sometimes, you can find something really excellent for not too much money. Sounds like you were open to the Shoe Vibe, and it worked for you! (How mystical is THAT? LOL.)
I had a brown pair just like the ones in your picture for years. They were so comfy, and I got tons of compliments on them. So don't go walking into any meth labs with those on--you'll be upset if you have to leave them behind!
Those do look comfy!
I also love my SAS shoes. :)
I really like your new shoe choices. I just hate to spend lots of money on shoes but one time I was spending xmas money or something and I spent $115 on one pair of shoes. Those shoes wound up fitting my feet like a pair of gloves and lasted for over 5 years. Money well spent in that instance!
Xenia, I went to the Dansko website and can't find "Quinn." Maybe they don't make them anymore? And gosh they are expensive. But like my hubster says, I wear things for like 20 years so to spend $100 for shoes is no big deal. But I just hate to spend that kind of money and then have them hurt my feet. Ugh. I hate shopping.
i do the same thing with my shoes :) but i have about 40 pairs so they dont wear out as easy :)
COOS COUNTY IS A VAST METH LAB?!?!?! And to think we moved to NH to get away from that kind of thing on the mean streets of Brooklyn....
Oh, and if any of you have shoes with pointy toes, GET RID OF THEM NOW. Pointy toes were in fashion when I was a kid, and my pinky toenails still don't grow in right.
Thanks for the warning on the meth lab thing! LOL I'll have to remember that!
In other news, you've been tagged on my blog!
Here's your instructions:
Instructions:
1) Call the meme "Regrets - I've Had A Few"
2) Always refer (and link back) to the blogger who tagged you
3) Always tag (and link to) at least two new bloggers
4) List as many regrets as you like, but list a minimum of one (even if you have to re-interpret the term 'regret' because you feel strongly that you don't have any)
5) Include these five rules in each post as the meme instructions.
Magda - thank you so much for the Wiki page - I don't think anyone has ever made one for me. Thanks also for the SAS recommendation. The Dansko shoes also look good.
Dawn - I've heard of Crocs, and I've seen yours, yes? They look comfy too.
Karen "Ummm, sorry, Mrs. Thompson, I, uh, just remembered that I *do* have eggs so if you could just be so kind as to open the door so I don't have to touch it and, uh, here, these shoes aren't comfortable but they look fabulous so, uh, my gift to you! See you at soccer!"
bwahahahaahahahahahaaa! This cracked me up, I told my hubby about it! Snicker.
Janelle - I like the "Shoe Vibe" theory. I must have been ready.
And, Meg - yes, I think meth is a very rural phenom so I'm not surprised it's a problem in Coos County, it's definitely a problem in Pierce County here in Washington.
Different Coos county, I think she's talking about the one in Oregon not the one in NH. There isn't much meth in NH yet, we've got more heroin and cocaine here and it's cheap enough that the meth folks haven't taken over yet (though I hear that they have quite a problem in Maine).
Shoes - I have to pay the big bucks because my feet are so big and wide. I love my Clark's sandals 9 months of the year - I also have some closed toe Birks, a set of Merrill bootlets, and some wonderful Ugg clones that I bought for $30 at CostCo. I hate shoe shopping because they just don't make girlie cute shoes in my size!
Lands End shoes are more reliable, comfortable and functional!! I like to wear them!!
